Prof. Kristel Van Laethem

Prof. Kristel Van Laethem

Kristel Van Laethem was trained as a biochemical engineer and obtained a PhD in Medical Sciences at KU Leuven in 2001, focusing on HIV drug resistance. She played a pivotal role in the development of the Rega HIV drug resistance interpretation system. She joined UZ Leuven in 1994, where she implemented molecular diagnostics for HIV-1/2, HTLV and HCV. Currently, she coordinates the activities for the AIDS Reference Laboratory. Since 2009, she is assistant professor at KU Leuven where she shares her expertise through teaching in the faculty of Medicine and conducts research at the Rega Institute, within the department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Transplantation. Her contributions to molecular diagnostics and epidemiology are evidenced by more than 125 publications in international peer reviewed journals and by her supervision of over 25 bachelor, master and PhD theses, along with her role as an independent evaluator for an additional 25 theses. Furthermore, she mentored more than 10 international exchange students, often through collaborative development cooperation projects.

Dr. Graeme Moyle

Dr. Graeme Moyle

Dr Graeme Moyle, MD, MB BS, Dip. GUM, has been caring for PLWH since 1988 after receiving his medical degree (MB, BS) from the University of Adelaide in Adelaide, South Australia in 1986 and subsequently doctorate (MD) in 1994. Over the years, Dr Moyle has worked on HIV research since the late 1980s in the field of HIV therapy, drug resistance and pharmacology and has published over 220 original scientific articles as well as reviews and editorials. He is a consultant physician and HIV specialist at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London, U.K., and personally cares for a large cohort of PLWH. He is a member of the IAS core faculty, having also served on the British HIV Association Treatment Guidelines Writing Committee and works with several HIV advocacy and education groups.

Dr. Rakan Nasreddine

Dr. Rakan Nasreddine

Dr. Nasreddine is an Infectious Disease specialist at Saint-Pierre University Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. He is the lead researcher at the Belgian Research on AIDS & HIV Consortium (BREACH) focusing mainly on real-world trials of antiretroviral therapies.
